Woodstock North Thunder Varsity snagged a late lead and defeated Johnsburg 3-1 on Tuesday. The game was tied at one with Woodstock North Thunder Varsity batting in the top of the eighth when Jared Spung singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Felipe De Avila struck out five, while Johnsburg pitchers sat down ten.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Johnsburg tied things up at one when Linkletter grounded out, scoring one run.
De Avila earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Woodstock North Thunder Varsity. He lasted eight innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out five.
Linkletter took the loss for Johnsburg. He lasted seven and a third innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out nine.
Aaron Montgomery, Dustin Herrmann, Spung, and De Avila each collected one hit to lead Woodstock North Thunder Varsity.
Toussaint led Johnsburg with one hit in four at bats.
